Catching up time, but losing the race. Tunis to Mahdia.

Well, we were a bit slow off the boat, but were waved to the front of the line pretty quickly. Boy there were quite a lot of 4x4 groups going the same way. Nearly all French by the way. Nonetheless, I felt the bikers got some kind of extra credit and adiration.

As often in these countries, a mute and deaf hunchback dragged us from one little line to the next, till all the paperwork was done. OK we thought as we were waived on, but then additional checks took place again, and the customs papers they had just given us were then collected again...and the immigration papers also.

Although I had planned to call my old collegue Sassi in Tunis for some advice on where to go and stay, we did not get round to that and just drove off.
The Tunis harbor is not an area I used to come, so I cannot say how much it changed. But once we got going direction Hammamet, it was soon clear the traffic had not.
Andre had hoped on some smaller roads but progress was so slow, we switched to the peage or toll roads.
Now this was a good change. Little traffic, low cost and fast, we were clocking up the miles.

Figured Mahdia or El Jem would be a good spot to stop, and I remembered the Mahdia Palace Hotel...
Unfortunately I did not get to enjoy it much, I am starting to struggle with my health and not feeling well at all over the last few days. It started after I got off the bike shaking of cold some where in Spain, and thought it was a one off; but it kept getting worse. Both mentally and physically I am suffering, but once on the bike, I seem to be distracted enough to keep going.

I've been increasingly worried about the next legs of the trip, where the pace will have to pick up.

The bike is doing well, and as usual on camping trips, we should not have taken our cooking gear. You can eat anywhere here, and the one off time we had no choice, use the cookie jar!!!!
